1700 - 1600 BC, the Holy Land

The Holy Land prospered under Hyksos control and the ancient trade routes became more active than ever before.

Hyksos Egypt was the land into which the young Joseph was carried as a slave, and rose to power as a trusted servant of the Pharaoh. Joseph had two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim, the last two namesakes of the future 12 tribes of Israel.

The well watered land of the east Nile delta had long been a refuge for drought-driven nomads. Though related tribes remained in Canaan, some possibly in control of cities like Shechem, Joseph brought his own family into the fertile Land of Goshen where they were to live for the next several hundred years during the unrecorded Egyptian Period of Israelite history.
